How to become a real estate agent in New York?

If you want to be a real estate agent you should know that this occupation may not give you a steady flow of income each month. Here you earn only when a particular sale is made. So being mentally prepared, you have to proceed and spend your money to become a real estate agent.

First of all, you need to take proper real estate sales course from a licensed sales course operator. There is a national association for realtors. So when you complete your course term which takes 3 months, you will obtain a certificate of real estate agent from them. Let me remind you that after you apply for this course, you need to learn many things. So it requires you to be serious about your course work. Otherwise, it will just be a waste of money. You could also sign in an online course or purchase a CD. But here you also need to pay fees around $400.

Now, to prove that you took the course you need to take real estate sales licensing test with a local licensing test operator. With only $200 you can attend the test which is very easy to pass. Then they will furnish you a temporary certificate though not a certified license. This certificate will be valid for 30 to 90 days.

In the next step you have to register with a licensed broker for as long as 3 years. After signing in the contract your license will be transferred to your broker. He will hold your license for some time. But if you like to change your broker, you can certainly do it but this will have to be done via your present broker. After 3 years you would be eligible to appear in the direct broker’s exam. But during that time you must learn many things and take more courses each year. To hold your license you must pay certain fees also.
