To be a real estate attorney you need to meet the same eligibility criteria and educational qualifications as any other field of law. However being a real estate attorney you have to be proficient in some other areas as well. Once you have graduated in criminal justice, real estate, political science or business you are eligible to enroll in a law school. However, you must complete and score well on the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) to get admitted in the law school.
During your study in law school work hard and take extra care on the area of real estate. If possible along with your study complete certificate courses on law and economics. Get acquainted with the real estate market in your area and gain first hand knowledge on how the field of real estate operates. If possible spend some time in a builder's sales office and try to figure out how it works.
Most importantly get an internship, it not only gives you a job exposure but also give you an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of working in real estate law. If you are unable to hold a position in a law firm, find some odd jobs for a real estate office.
Build your resume during your study at the law school. Apart from including the real estate law internship, join some political clubs, law reviews and be a part of other activities on campus.
Your polished resume and outgoing personality won’t help you in any way if you can’t plan for an organized life after graduation.
After passing law school graduation you have to crack through the bar exam of the state where you would like to practice in future. Each state has individual bar exam format and some states even require testing in a multi state testing format.
